Masakazu Kinjō 館長範士金城政和, performing Hamahiga no tonfā (浜比嘉のトンファー). For some people the secret of martial arts is in the involvement of the hips. However, all experts don’t agree on that. How much hips is needed, how often ? The answer is often personal, related to body type, changes with age and back pain, and changes with specific phases of kata or kumite. In any case, it should always be linked to actual impact maximisation. Here, the kata is demonstrated with very limited hip involvement, showing great restraint and power. Kinjō Masakazu is the head of the ryūkyū kobudō hozonkai Sōhonbu (琉球古武道保存会総本部) and of the Kubagawa branch (near Shūri, in Naha) of the Okinawa uechi ryū karatedō hozonkai Shūbukan (沖縄上地流空手道保存会久場川修武館).
