The Rouge Vif D'Etampes is a vibrant red 19th century French variety named for the medieval city of Etampes, near Paris. Its beauty makes it a perfect ornamental pumpkin, but it is also delicious when baked or used in soups and stews. It is thought that Rouge Vif D'Etampes served as inspiration for the pumpkin carriage in Charles Perrault's classic tale of Cinderella (Cendrillon) in the 1600s.
