China has urged the US to abide by the one-China principle and the provisions of the joint communiques on the sale of arms to Taiwan. According to reports, Taiwan will buy as many as 400 anti-ship missiles from Boeing to repel a potential Chinese invasion. The island's defence ministry had confirmed the arms deal is in the works, and that it is working closely with the US to ensure timely delivery. Taiwan has previously purchased ship-launched Harpoon missiles. This will be the first time it is buying the mobile, land-launched version.
