Gunning For Love - The Damned

'Gunning For Love' is a song written and performed live by The Damned. It was intended for the 3rd MCA album which never materialised. No demos from this 1987 period have surfaced but it's assumed that they still exist and may be sitting in the vaults of Geffen who absorbed MCA in 2003. This version was recorded live at the Brixton Academy . As far as is known it's the only time it was performed live. On bootlegs it is sometimes listed as 'Tear This Slaughterhouse Down' (a lyric from the song) as the bootleggers obviously didn't know the genuine title. Line-up for The Damned at the time was Vanian, Scabies, Jugg & Merrick. The song, and at least one other from the MCA period, were later re-recorded by The Phantom Chords for the 1990 Polydor album. The album remains officially unreleased although cassette copies were sold at gigs by the band. Numerous bootlegs have appeared of varying quality.
