~William Orbit~ Ambient-house pioneer and master remixer William Orbit (real name William Wainwright) began his musical career in the early-'80s band Torch Song. When the group broke up, he remained in the studio to learn the ropes and began to provide remixes for artists, including Madonna, Prince, the Human League, Erasure and Belinda Carlisle. Orbit concurrently recorded his own material under the name Strange Cargo and released three albums during the late '80s and early '90s. He occasionally records as Bass-O-Matic and founded Guerilla and O Records. During 1997, he worked with Madonna as the main producer for her electronica-oriented LP Ray of Light. It won Grammy awards for Best Pop Album and Best Dance Recording. Ray of Light's success led to a host of remixing and production work, including Blur's 1999 album 13.
