The Chinese defence ministry announced the ICBM test launch of the missile carrying a simulated warhead into the Pacific Ocean. The test came amid increased missile activities in the Asia-Pacific region. In early September, North Korea conducted several short-range ballistic missile tests which sent projectiles flying towards the Sea of Japan or East Sea. In April, the US Army deployed a mid-range capable missile system during its joint exercises with the Philippines.
