What are the different forms of worship? For Jews, the Sabbath is referred to as Shabbat and occurs between Friday and Saturday nights. Services may begin at sunset or later in the evening, depending on the Jew. Shabbat is preceded with a supper of braided bread and grape juice or wine. On Friday evenings, a kiddush — or special prayer and blessing — is offered. To officially conclude Shabbat observance, some communities have a special service on Friday night, a Torah reading on Saturday morning, and a Havdalah ritual on Saturday evening. Shabbat is seen as a time of rejuvenation and tranquility by Jews who observe it. It serves as a reminder to many to slow down and enjoy life. Certain Jews may abstain from shopping, while others may abstain from gardening and other kinds of labor.
