Title reads: “Creations of Cardinals“. Rome, Italy. Good shot of St Peter's Cathedral looking over bridge across River Tiber. Various shots of cathedral taken from different angled. Interior shots of St Peter's Cathedral. The Pope (Pius XII) carried down aisle on a chair (“the Sedia Gestatoria“). He blesses the congregation as he passes. We see the Pope sit on his throne, he is attended by members of the Sacred College. Old Cardinals are led up to kiss the Pope's ring and slipper. He receives the Vatican lawyers in black robes; they make a plea for the canonisation of four new saints. The 32 new Cardinals then pay their respects to the pope, including Cardinal Aganian of Armenia and Cardinal Griffin of Westminster. Background to the ceremony is provided by the Swiss, Palatine guards and Papal guards in traditional dress. We hear sound of choir singing in Latin. The pope leaves the cathedral, natural sound of people shouting “Viva Pope“. FILM ID: A VIDEO FROM BRITISH PATHÉ. EXPLO
