This cute microbial animal is a Rotifer. It has turned blue by the breakdown of pigments from algae and cyanobacteria is has been eating. It has a ciliated mouth and is about 500 microns (half a millimeter) in length. Three eggs can clearly be seen within the body of this wiggly creature. Collected from a freshwater Florida spring at 6’ depth and viewed with 200X DIC.
