Zubin Mehta and the Vienna Philharmonic / Wiener Philharmoniker performing Morning Mood from Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, op. 46 at the Summer Night Concert 2015. At the 2015 Summer Night Concert in Schönbrunn Zubin Mehta conducted, not only Richard Strauss’ Fanfare, written in the year 1924 for the Vienna Philharmonic, but also works by Carl Nielsen, Edvard Grieg, Christian Sinding und Jean Sibelius. Thereby the program entirely focuses on Northern European composers. The Summer Night Concert is an annual open-air event which has been held since 2008. The previous series was the “Concert for Europe”, which took place from 2004 until 2007. The park of Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna/Austria is the magical setting for the concert, which is free of charge for all residents and visitors of the city. The illustrious conductors who have previously led the orchestra at this event are Georges Prêtre, Daniel Barenboim, Franz Welser-Möst, Valery Gergiev, Gustavo Dudamel and Lorin Maazel and Christoph Eschenbach.
