Cities Skylines is a remarkable city planning and development program based on the Sim City style of computer games but appropriately evolved with just the right balance of play ability and technical foundation making for an immersive and creative computer gaming experience. Although the game essentially uses a classic birds eye/overhead view to develop and build a populated city it is possible to explore the city from the first person perspective of a citizen and its only here you can view and appreciate the look and feel of how your creation is fitting the land scape and surrounds as if you lived there. As well as other features the Park Life expansion allows you to design and develop “Chirpyland“ an amusement park within your city then turn it on and have it come alive with patrons and activity. The games virtual population uses a 'Twitter' like social media service called 'Chirpy' that relays current insites and viewpoints of the residents. The Amusement park name “Chirpyland“ name is a rather unfortunate spin off from being themed after the service. In this video the entire amusement park is only a micro detail of ‘Icarus' - a sprawling metropolis city I crated over several weeks. The fact that you can 'drop in' and experience the carnival atmosphere of it from a ground level is explored in the video. The rather disconcerting, uncanny valley crowd and lores textures are a reasonable compromise considering the overall scale that this world within a much larger world sits within. I designed the park to fit the existing available land resulting in a creative challenge with the park needing to fit and operate on several levels of land . The main entrance is serviced by the existing transit system of cars and buses while the rear gate opens to a large user base coming from a high density residential area within walking distance.
