How to Draw Flowers | Orchid Pencil Drawing

For this exercise I chose to draw an Orchid. I first lightly sketch out a rectangle and divide it in two by drawing a vertical line through the center. Then I begin to draft out the general layout of the orchid before adding details. Once I'm happy with the general layout I begin to apply shading with the outside of the pencil. I block in darkest tones, mid tones and lightest tones but I gradually build up the mid and dark tones throughout the drawing process.
