The landing strip on the Caribbean island of Saba, known as the world’s shortest commercial runway, is only 400m long, with cliffs plunging down to the ocean on 3 sides and a mountain on the other. The runway is marked with an X, indicating that all aircraft are forbidden from landing, with the exception of a few scheduled air services using STOL (short takeoff and landing) aircraft. Landings and takeoffs feel like you’re on an aircraft carrier. Here we see a WinAir DHC-6 Twin Otter touch down and stop in under 200m, making the turnoff to the ramp. On takeoff it back-taxis to the very edge of the cliff and still uses all the available runway length before lifting up at the very end. Quite a thrill! Subscribe to my channel for more videos!
