'China's Worst Sandstorm in TEN YEARS Sends Pollution Levels Soaring' Heavy winds from inner Mongolia have swept sand from the Gobi Desert across western China, coating Beijing in a think layer of dust and sending pollution levels rocketing. China's Meteorological Administration announced a yellow alert on Monday morning and those with respiratory diseases were advised to stay inside as Beijing's official air quality index reached a maximum level of 500.
