I've made a few rocket stoves, but they are massive and not backpack worthy. This DIY steel rocket stove weighs just over 2 pounds and flat-packs for the trail. I call it the Rocket King! Buy the plans here: I made mine with a piece of reclaimed steel sheet metal I bought for $5 from my local scrap yard. It is galvanized, so I'll need to remove the coating before I fire it up. I used my jigsaw with a metal blade, a cordless drill, metal file and a few other tools and supplies. My friend Doug Jackson, of SV Seeker fame, helped me cut out the Rocket King rocket stove on his CNC plasma cutter.
