Zira, paprika, turmeric for pilaf color, bay leaf, salt and black pepper. I cut the carrots into strips. Onions in half rings. Zira is the main seasoning in pilaf. Rinse the rice under running water. I wash the rice 7 times until the water runs clear. This is what makes the rice crumbly in the dish.
