Footage shows the habitat of the clear water karst stream of the Rio Sucuri, in the Bodoquena highlands of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The first few km of the river are clear, having emerged from its source spring nearby and has not yet had time to become turbid from detritus and sediment. The clear waters permit plenty of sunlight penetration which in turn leads to dense aquatic vegetation. Plant species found here include: Acrosticum danaeifolium Bacopa australis Chara rusbyana Echinodorus cordifolius Echinodorus grandiflorus Echinodorus macrophyllus Gomphrena elegans Helanthium bolivianum (used to be known as Echinodorus bolivianus) Hydrocotyle verticillata (described in literature concerning this river as H. leucocephala but I'm sure that it's H. verticillata) Ludwigia peruviana Myriophyllum aquaticum Nymphaea jamesoniana Nymphaea gardneriana Planch Potamogeton illinoensis Polygonum acuminatum Polygonum hydropiperoides Pontederia parviflora Fish species appearing in this video: Characidium laterale (B
