Jackpot was a pop group from Amsterdam that existed from 1972 to 1977. Henny Eskes and Cees van den Berge had known each other since 1961 when they played together in the dance orchestra Music Strings. In 1966, they released the single “La me da ma doen dan“, but it did not achieve significant success. In 1972, Eskens and Van den Berge, along with Con de Vries and Lex Kroon, formed the group Jackpot, with Eddy Ouwens as their producer. Ouwens, using the pseudonym A. Brikoos, wrote all the music and lyrics for the group and also sang this performance in children tv-programm “Sjoko“ of “Ginny Ginny”. Because the record company needed a picture for the single and there was none, Eddy Owens told them to put the jackpot on the cover from a restaurant in Zeist fitting by the bandsname. “Ginny Ginny” became a modest success in 1973, but Jackpot broke through in 1974 with the song “Is Everybody Happy“ which sold copies followed by “One and One is Two“ a few months later. Both songs reached the top 10 in the Dutch Top 40. Despite these successes, their debut album, “Everybody Happy with Jackpot,“ sold moderately. In 1977, drummer Lex Kroon left the group and was replaced by Arnaldo Gillie from the band Cardinal Point. However, the replacement came too late and the group decided to disband. music videos ❯ More TopPop?
