The band for Africa was a joint project by various German artists with the aim of collecting donations for Africa. The model for this was the British project Band Aid, which Bob Geldof and Midge Ure organized in England in 1984. The project was initiated in 1985. The lyrics of the song 'Naked in the Wind' were written by Wolfgang Niedecken (BAP), the music by Herbert Grönemeyer. In January 1985, a video clip for the Formula One television program was recorded in the FSM studios. All artists and record companies involved waived their fees. The song peaked at number three on the charts. Band für Afrika performed live on July 13, 1985 at the Live Aid concert in Cologne, the title Naked in the Wind was broadcast worldwide. In addition, deserters by Wolf Maahn were sung together, which was broadcast on ARD in 1987 on the occasion of what was then the last Rockpalast night.
