Frankie Vaughan, Water Rat 558. Born Frank Fruit Abelson on February 3rd 1928 in Liverpool, Lancashire. As a youth his dream was to be a boxer and he fought for the “Lancaster Lads Club“, part of the National Association of Boy's Club, and during his career he was a major contributor to their funds. He attended the Leeds College of Art, studying design, and on the 20th June 1949 during a student revue “It's Rag Time“ he was sang, well he was the show's main vocalist and his world changed. Within 10 months he was being represented by the UK's biggest agent Billy Marsh. Radio, TV and film followed and within two years he was an international star. 33 albums, 85 singles (25 of them reached the top 20) and an OBE to his name, he became King Rat in 1968 and again 30 years later in 1998. He died 17th September 1999
