This week I got to meet with Jacques Carolan and he showed me how his group have built a quantum computer from the principle of Bosonic Sampling. Using particles of light as quantum qubits. The work is recently published in Nature Photonics and a preprint can be found here: On the experimental verification of quantum complexity in linear optics Thank you very much to Jacques, the NSQI, and the University of Bristol Photonics Group for letting me take a look!
