#africanews #ibrahimtraoré #turkey Since he came to power, President Ibrahim Traore has proven that he is committed to doing whatever it takes to combat the insecurity and terrorism that has plagued Burkina Faso for some time. His efforts are a testament to his passion and commitment to see Burkina Faso safe and secure once again. After the French military forces failed to achieve any meaningful result and were expelled from the country by Traore, he set out to take appropriate measures to outfit the Burkinabe military to ensure that they were capable of fighting the problem. Formerly, when France was still in the country, influencing everything from politics to economics, it ensured that the Burkinabe military was blocked from getting the equipment and materials needed to fight the insurgents. Thereby, making the country dependent on them for military equipment and expertise. Recall that in 2023, the Defence Minister of Burkina Faso, Kassoum Coulibaly, revealed that when the country used to rely on its traditional partners, most especially France, France usually imposed conditions on Burkina Faso in terms of what military equipment to buy and from whom they should buy it from. And, not only were conditions imposed, but these conditions were sometimes unfavorable to Burkina Faso. As a result, Burkina Faso ended up buying a lot of military equipment that was very expensive and under unfavorable conditions imposed by its former partners. “We often bought very expensive equipment under these conditions. We have a lot of tanks that were purchased mainly because we were tied, very tied, to a partner who imposed on us what to take,“ he explained.
