A direct response to the intersections of COVID-19, the opioid crisis, and the increasing levels of violence against women and girls in our community: Our Safety Changes Everything Outreach Team is based in Vancouver, BC and is the first of its kind. These are our Stories From the Frontline. BWSS is taking direct action in the streets of the Downtown Eastside, Commercial Drive, Kingsway and the Granville Strip — providing immediate crisis responses to instances of violence against women, emotional support, resources, accompaniment to the police, and hospital/medical services. Since there currently isn’t an anti-violence organization providing street-based outreach to women and girls, our program fills a vital gap in resources — specifically focused on the intersectionality of gender-based violence happening in our community.
