Pittsburgh, PA has some REALLY rough looking area's in it. Today let's look at some of the most impacted and dangerous parts of the city. Also known as the Steel City, this place has certainly went through it's share of issues. As the steel industry began to decline in the 1970's, the area was severely impacted with job losses. Manufacturing businesses began to close, people moved away to find work, economic despair increased as time went by. Homes and business became abandoned and some of that has yet to recover to this day. Poverty is still an issue as of today, as 1 in 5 people living in Pittsburgh are considered under the poverty line. In the area's I'm going to take a look at today, that number is significantly higher. Crime is also very high in these area's, as the city is over 50% higher in crime than the national average. However with all of that said Pittsburgh can certainly be a wonderful place and has some beautiful areas (in another video we'll take a look at those). As the loss of the steel industry still leaves an impact on this city, it is turning things around for the better, having amazing medical services, schools, new technology, tourist attractions, great shopping and dining, and much more. Pittsburgh still has a way to go fighting crime, poverty, and abandoned area's though. Let's check it out! This is a documentary for educational purposes.
