Muslim-owned shops bulldozed in New Delhi

Indian authorities approved the demolition of several Muslim-owned shops in New Delhi, and a number were destroyed on Wednesday before the Supreme Court stepped in and halted proceedings. The entrance and stairs of a Mosque were also demolished. Officials say the demolition order was targeting illegal buildings, but many Muslims feel they are being singled out, and that anti-Muslim sentiment in the country had been rising under the Hindu-nationalist led government. The demolitions come days after violence during a Hindu procession in the capital resulted in dozens of arrests.
