Drone footage showed on Thursday (October 7) a secondary lava stream from La Palma volcano engulfing greenhouses and plantations on its way to sea. The lava stream, which got separated from the main one which has already reached sea, is due to touch the Atlantic ocean entering between the beaches of Los Guirres and El Charcon. Volcano response committee PEVOLCA said on Thursday (October 7) the air quality in the island has worsened due to changing weather conditions, forcing to close La Palma airport. Spain's air traffic operator AENA said on Friday (October 8) La Palma airport remained shut down because of ash accumulations. The Cumbre Vieja volcano started blasting out jets of red-hot lava on Sept. 19, laying waste to hundreds of buildings and farms, and forcing the evacuation of thousands.
