The fortress of Baltiysk is closed for foreign visitors, and only a small part is open for the Russian visitors as most of the citadel it still haven’t been explored yet. But I’ve got the opportunity not only to get inside of this place but also to take part in excavation of the fortress and studying it with the Russian Geographical Society. The fortress of Baltiysk (former Pillau) is a masterpiece of European fortifications of the 17-20th centuries. The construction began in 1626 by the King of Sweden, then it was bought by the authorities of the German state Prussia and in 1945 it was surrendered to the Soviets. 📌 - Russian Speaking Club where you can practice the Russian language.
