Finally something from Spawn Of Possession. Never really got around recording something from them. I actually learned all the songs that had tabs back in my early days. Even had a cover of “Swarm Of The Formless“ on my old channel. So a lot of viewers requested Spawn Of Possession and some viewers requested it played even faster. Scorched is probably one of my favourite SoP songs and this was another challenge. I practiced it 20% faster but even with a good take it sounded bad. Even without me playing over it it's too fast. Sounded like garbage. 360bpm (180bpm if you count it half) or 16% faster was a good a compromise I think. (The original is 155/310bpm for those who don't know) Some people will probably complain anyway. At first I didn't want to record the solos. I didn't even learn them. The whole song is like one solo. But then some people would complain it's not a full cover. So yeah, I transcribed the solos. They are not 100% accurate. More like an interpretation. But they are there. I also changed that middle part where I tap the minor chords. It's supposed to be a hammer on riff where you pick the highest and lowest strings, and the rest inbetween is hammer-oned. I played it like that in the riff in the beginning but not for the mid section. It's quite demanding, and I don't have the stamina to do it for a full section. So I changed the fingering slightly with a tapping. The notes are the same. Stamina (and comfort) is also the reason I play a few of those single string thirds with my ring finger instead of the pinky. Usually I'd play those with the pinky but that song is quite heavy on that finger, so I have a few spots where I can regain some stamina. Fun fact: I can only play this song on this tempo once a day, for one playing session. I usually play and record in the morning because of that. Whenever I played it again in the evening my body/hands/arms would still be too tired and couldn't perform properly. Another thing: As you can see, I upgraded my setup again. I bought a Lumix G7/G70 camera last month and I noticed I need a second camera for all the stuff I want to do without having to record something twice. So I got another one. I'm still new to proper filming so excuse my beginner mistakes. I didn't notice the lighting reflecting on my guitar in the cropped shot while first I wanted to do some more “advanced“ editing but that lighting mistake made it unsuitable for a full-screen shot (in my opinion). And aaaanother thing: I wish I could've spend more time with the video, the setup and editing. Wanted to re-record it and add some keyframes for some movement in the video. But Vegas, my current editing program was kinda bitchy and the other more important thing: I'm currently really busy with school and work. I'm still in the last year of my apprenticeship. My exams for the final degree are coming up soon and right now, I have to prepare a few presentations on Quality Control and Specific Tools for school. (I'm a CNC-Machinist for anyone that's , I'm not a musician lol) So instead of either putting off work or the video for later editing or re-recording I decided to just release it as it is without much editing. Bums me out a bit, because I have bigger plans for the videos, and I also need to get better at filming, editing and getting my creative version across in those, but work is more important right now. I hope to improve on my future videos. Best watched on a big screen!!! Enjoy :)
