I created a rooftop solar array for my Tesla Model Y (more on ) That I could easily drive with it. It gives me anywhere from 20 to 75 miles. Version one (1575 watts, 11 inches high) adds about 20 miles per day, version two (4000 watts, 5 inches high) can add 45 miles on average, and with DC-to-DC charging that could increase to about 63 miles for a five hour sun window. When expanded, the array covers the space of a US parking spot and is designed to reduce injury in case of accidental collisions. I also explore the environmental benefits of my design and discuss its potential applications for larger vehic
