I've been working on this one for a while now. I'm glad to have it finished. This song is around 148 years old. It's an old Southern Appalachian Folk song wrote during the American Civil War. The author is unknown. I always thought it was a really cool song and decided to see what kind of music I could arrange for it. This song could be about any war at anytime. Just a man missing his woman and home and family, worried about dying. I did all the music on the Roland GW-8 keyboard. Two new YouTube friends were gracious enough to provide some of the Civil War reenactment shots. Some of the other footage I got from some royalty free videos sites I use. Thanks to 26NCT and slick7cw. I hope you enjoy this video. I'll put the lyrics below. Thanks for watching! - Ricky Rebel Soldier Oh Polly, Oh Polly, it's for your sake alone, I have left my old Father, my Country, and my home I have left my old Mother to weep and to mourn I am a rebel soldier, and far from my home The grape shot and musket and the cannons lumber loud There's many a mangled body the blanket for the shroud There's many a mangled body left on the fields alone I am a rebel soldier and far from my home Here is a good old cup of brandy and a glass of wine You can drink to your true love and I will drink to mine You can drink to your true love and I will lament and moan I am a rebel soldier and far from my home I'll eat when I'm hungry and drank when I'm dry If the yankees don't kill me I'll live until I die If the yankees don't kill me and cause me to mourn I am rebel soldier and far from my home I will build me a castle on some green mountain high Where I can see my Polly when she is passing by Where I can see my Polly and help her to mourn I am a rebel soldier and far from my home I am a rebel soldier and far from my home
