LITTLE ROCK GETAWAY | Stephanie Trick

“Little Rock Getaway” was composed by pianist Joe Sullivan in 1933, and he made recordings of it both that year and in 1935. Sullivan’s career began in Chicago, and his musical inclination helped him find work as a sideman with dance bands and accompanying silent films. His main influences were Earl Hines and Fats Waller. While playing with Bing Crosby, he wrote “Little Rock Getaway,” Little Rock referring to the hometown of his then fiancée, Mary Anne Dean.
