This brief setback meant nothing to Lyle, who would recover instantly and seemed to be on the road to career success and glory until just one fight before he faced Ali. On February eleventh, seventy-five, on the ring of the Honolulu International Center, Jimmy Young dealt him another harsh reality check, defeating him by unanimous decision at the end of ten scheduled rounds. This was probably not the best prelude to what was to follow: a challenge that only a true warrior would be capable of facing. On May sixteenth, seventy-fifth, Lyle would agree to step into the ring against Muhammad Ali and fight until one of the two was truly unable to continue.
