Mandatory Credit: Dario Gambarin Italian land artist Dario Gambarin used a tractor, plough, and rotary harrow to carve the colossal portrait of the Italian poet Dante Alighieri in a performance piece on a field in the Castagnaro commune, the Province of Verona. Footage filmed on Tuesday shows the portrait of the poet reading (Italian) “Dante - 1321-2021 - Amar Perdona (“to love forgives“ - from a verse of the poet) on 25,000 square meters of the on agricultural land created without preparatory drawings. The crop art is believed to be the largest portrait of the great poet in the world. Gambarin had previously worked on an enormous picture of Russian President Vladimir Putin and is generally known for using land art as a portrait medium for various influential figures, including Barack Obama, Pope Francis, Nelson Mandela, and current US President Donald Trump.
