This video summarises in 3 minutes how the Web was invented at CERN by British physicist and IT expert Tim Berners Lee in 1989, and how it grew to become what it is today, thanks to CERN’s decision in 1993 to keep it as an open standard for everyone to use. To celebrate 30 years since Sir Tim Berners-Lee's proposal and to kick-start a series of celebrations worldwide, CERN will host a 30th Anniversary event in the morning of 12 March 2019 in partnership with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and with the World Wide Web Foundation.
