Congenital and acquired defects of the iris may have a marked negative impact on vision and quality of life. Some defects, particularly those that are small and peripheral may be managed by suture closure, custom contact lenses, or perhaps, corneal tattoo. However, larger defects require use of artificial iris implants. Those devices will be reviewed.
