Emily Remler is a great example of how you can mix modern and more traditional ideas. This video is analyzing both the reharmonization or arrangement of Softly as in a Morning Sunrise and some of the phrases she plays over it in her solo. In the video I discuss how she uses modern and modal harmony in the reharmonization but also how some of her phrases are clearly coming out of a tradition based on players like Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass. Emily Remlers solo on this tune is incredible melodic and groovy and in many ways a really great example of mainstream or traditional approaches meeting more modern postbop concepts.
