Unissued / unused footage - dates and locations may be unclear / unknown. Titles read: 'African Mirror No. 257 - A GRAND UNIT IN TRAINING'. South Africa. Various shots of 'Springbok Sappers' - South African engineer cadets - in training. They lay a bridge across a river so that vehicles can drive over. They then build a larger bridge with steel poles. Several shots of the infantry moving forward with rifles while under fire from field guns and air bombers. Sappers build another bridge across river - this one balanced on small canoe-style boats. Vehicles drive over. Sappers carrying poles hit the ground as bombers fly overhead. They lay the pole - actually a land torpedo - on a barbed-wired area and retreat. C/U of NCO lighting detonator. Explosion. The infantry move through the blasted area. More explosions. Infantry running over ground. They gather round their objective - a cave or dugout - with guns pointed.
