A fan wants to know if GMO is too broad a category? Should organisms grown from individually edited sequences of DNA be treated the same as golden rice or vat-grown meat? What about vat-grown Woolly Mammoths? Of course Bill Nye is all over this one, but, much to Bill’s surprise, so is co-host Chuck Nice. Bill wants to get past the semantics of the various distinctions, and talk instead about why he thinks GMOs are good things, and how Genetically Modified Organisms got conflated with Mad Cow Disease (BSE) and led to misunderstandings about GMOs. Bill also ponders the use of GMO to bring back extinct species, like the Woolly Mammoth, and whether that would be a good thing or not. This “Behind the Scenes“ video was shot during the recording of our episode, “ Cosmic Queries: GMOs with Bill Nye (Part 1).“ If you'd like to listen to the full podcast, click here: Support us on Patreon: Subscribe to StarTalk: Follow StarTalk: Twitter: Facebook: Instagram: About StarTalk: Science meets pop culture on StarTalk!
