EarthQuaker Devices founder, president, and lead designer Jamie Stillman talks about the Japanese tour his band Relaxer did with Boris and the inspiration for the Hizumitas Fuzz. Jamie details the lengthy process of recreating Boris guitarist Wata’s original ELK BM Sustainar and how he updated the circuit on her 40-year-old, tour-ravaged fuzz pedal for the 21st century. Even cooler than that, Wata herself talks about her new pedalboard mainstay and offers suggestions for new Hizumitas owners (Hint: Play very loud!). “It is a sound that carries through the air and a feeling that leads into space. I want people to feel that,” Wata says.
