1978 Bahari Troupe, Directed by “Marina“ ANN Diniz. Performed at the Strawberry Festival in Garden Grove, CA. Directed by “Marina“ Loys ANN Diniz. Dancers Wendy Adams (front left) & “Karima“ Cathy Seabourne (front right). Marina is in the back, second from left. Please let me know if you recognize the other dancers. I had been a member of the first Bahari Troupe, but was no longer with Bahari in 1978. Some refer to this dance as a trance dance. The hand movements may mimic birds. The primary meaning of Guedra is cooking pot. It's said that they make a drum, by tightly covering this cooking pot with a leather skin. The beat of this drum (representing a heart beat) is also called Guedra. The movements performed by the dancer, in response to the drum are also called Guedra. It's customary that the women dance in Nomadic tents and remain on their knees throughout much of the performance. The dancer goes into a trance and eventually collapses on the floor. Another comes to takes her place, and this can go on until dawn. Thank you for supporting this archival project by Subscribing to my channel.
