QUEEN Location : Rotterdam Ahoy Hall – Rotterdam – The Netherlands Dates : may 17 1977 and january 1979 Source 8 mm compilation film reel. I recently found a 8mm film reel with a compilation of various concerts at the Rotterdam Ahoy Hall. It features concert footage from the Rotterdam concerts 1977 and 1979, also fanmade artwork and a piece of Don’t stop me now promo video filmed from a tv screen. Most of the footage is from 1979 but there is also footage from, the second known 8mm filming, of Rotterdam 1977 edited in. The story : V.M. bought this reel at a early Dutch Queen convention 1982-1984 (Schiedam) from Frieda S. Fried S. was a die hard Queen fan and had contact with all bandmembers, she once made a pencil drawn comic book about the bands career, only about 5 were made and 1 was given to Brian May. Frieda S. was a long time favourite of the band and always invited back stage to meet the band. She remained active until Queen decided to tour with Paul Rodgers, she couldn’t handle the idea of the band touring with another leadsinger after Freddie passed away. From 2005 she disappeared from the fan scene and broke all contact with other fans as well. Somewhere in the attic she might have kept the original 8mm film reels and who knows whatever other stuff she kept. So Frieda S. if you are reading this…..
