On Feb 18th, 2019, I finally got to see Procol Harum. I’d been wanting to especially since Grand Hotel in 1973. They played a mixture of recent tracks and the classics that put them in the spotlight. Gary Brooker led a stellar band that was capable of delivering whatever he wanted to play. He playfully bantered with the crowd completely at ease. When I asked (after an astonishing classic) “can you come back next week?“, he instantly came back with “how about Tuesday, is that good for you?“ By now I was laughing in pleasant shock. He further commented on my brown sport coat making me look like a solicitor (lawyer). I believe they launched into ’Businessman’ from there. He was terrific throughout. I really did want him to come back. RIP
