In the last two years, the Campi Flegrei have seen a significant increase in ground uplift and seismic activity, culminating in the magnitude 4.4 earthquake of May 20, the strongest shock in the last 40 years . For this reason, the supervolcano's caldera is constantly monitored and the subject of studies, such as the one conducted by the Federico II University of Naples and the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV , which led researchers and scientists to the discovery of a new fault in the Campi Flegrei: it is located off the coast of La Pietra, Bagnoli seafront , western area of Naples on the border with Pozzuoli.
