I am provoking my Asian forest scorpion (Heterometrus spinifer) to make her show defensive behavior. When threatened, the scorpion raises its pedipalps/claws and the tail, emits a hissing sound and usually moves a bit away. She tried to bite and sting me sometimes. If you listen carefully, you can hear the sound which is made by stridulation of the chelicerae/jaws. Stridulation is common in the family Scorpionidae.
