Mercy, mercy, mercy was composed by Joe Zawinul in 1966 for Cannonbal Adderly. It became a hit in the US in 1967. This arrangement was made by trombone player Phil Wilson who received a Grammy Award nomination for his Rich recorded Mercy, Mercy, Mercy at Ceasers Palace in 1968 for his live album; Mercy, Mercy. Our player GJ Binkhorst wanted to have a more inspiring beginning and end, so he changed it a bit. Solo by Yuji Shi, Amsterdam drummer Eric Schuijt always dreamt about playing the ‘Buddy Rich Big Band’ songs. So he studied what Buddy Rich made famous, meticulously looked at the breaks and the techniques and studied for hours in his drum studio along an Amsterdam canal. After two years he formed the Eric meets Buddy Rich Big Band and gave a concert at the renowned BIMHUIS in Amsterdam.
