Just 2:56 into the game, Bryan Rust got the Penguins on the board. That would set the tone for both Rust and the Penguins team for this entire game. Rust scored again, this time only 26 seconds into the 2nd period. His nice breakaway tally would be his 100th career goal. To the media, following the game, Rust said: “It’s something that I am definitely going to look back on and cherish in the future. Hopefully, there is a lot more to come.“ Both of his goals were unassisted. Jeff Carter also scored in the 2nd, his 12th of the season. Carter won the faceoff, went straight to the net, and deflected the puck in. Tristan Jarry was stellar in net tonight, as he was able to stop all 24 of Washington's shots to earn a shutout.
