The area never had the large armies of the Eastern or Western theatre. Despite this, the outcomes of the battles fought west of the Mississippi impacted the course of the war more deeply than that. In this series we will examining the battles fought in Missouri and Arkansas during 1861 and 1862 and explore how these struggles affected the war. During this episode we will look at the outbreak of war in Missouri and see how the two sides struggled for this key border state in 1861. This is our first video on the channel, and part 1 of our series. Next part will explore the dramatic Battle of Wilson’s Creek.
