I have been building this turntable for a few years now, for my grandson (lucky him!) The base is an African drum which he provided. It is actually upside down for stability- it will have a large “foot“ and be filled with sand. The plinth is a slab of Juniper wood, still needs to be finished. The platter is layered aluminum and “Paperstone“, a material that used to be used for countertops- a very dead material acoustically. The TT features an inverted bearing, meaning that the thrust ball (ceramic) and pad (Torlon) are located at the top of the platter. The motor was produced by Teres Audio, and uses an optical sensor and strobe pattern on the underside of the platter to start/stop and maintain speed. The platter is string driven using nylon upholstery thread. The tonearm is an SME 3009 Series II (improved)
