In 1984 the Communist party of Bulgaria implemented what they called at the time “The Revival Process”. Hundreds of thousands of Turks living in Bulgaria were forced to change their names and adopt Bulgarian slavic names. Those who refused were either beaten up , tortured or imprisoned.
