“The kids in Bristol are sharp as a pistol When they do the Bristol Stomp Really somethin' when they join in jumpin' When they do the Bristol Stomp“ The Cameo-Parkway label out of South Philly had many hits in the late 50s and early 60s. The Bristol Stomp was written by Kal Mann and Dave Appell, who were executives for the label. The song uses a catchy “4-over-8” beat and refers to Bristol, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. The record peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #7 on the R&B Chart in 1961 and features lead singer Len Barry. The group at this point had Barry, Jerry Gross, Arnie Silver, Jim Mealey, and Mike Freda. The song sold more than one million records and was awarded an RIAA gold record.
